Requirements Engineering – the conductor of Systems Engineering

From 27 to 29 April 2026, the leading minds in requirements engineering met in Munich at REConf® — Europe’s most important conference for methods, trends and tools in RE. Under the motto “RE/ the conductor of Systems Engineering,” this year’s event focused on the interplay of different disciplines and on how requirements engineering can become the unifying and steering force in the development process. MID was again a sponsor in 2026, contributing exciting presentations and hosting a booth (G5).

Scalable configuration and traceability management across tools and domains

Christoph Bergner (Managing Director at MID) presented the implementation of a scalable enterprise solution for cross‑domain and cross‑tool configuration and traceability management. Using a real‑world scenario with up to 15 integrated tools and domains, he demonstrated how configuration‑based traceability management with over 100 million links can be implemented efficiently. The solution is tool‑neutral, standards‑based and enables cross‑system navigation of distributed content without copying or synchronizing data. The approach is complemented by integrated variant management and configurable AI‑enabled automation across tool and domain boundaries.

RE, AI and the art of conducting –
opportunities and limits in the ensemble

Kirsten Krischke and Simone Hopp presented targeted AI support in the RE process that significantly eases searching and analysing diagrams and models as the basis for requirements elicitation and documentation. The talk examined the framework and initial conditions and the day‑to‑day use of AI by requirements engineers as an orchestrator: searching existing documentation, highlighting imprecise wording and other pitfalls, and helping ensure all requirements come together as a coherent whole.
